Northumbria Community

"The feedback from our website users has been extremely positive, and we have seen a significant increase in its use. We enjoy working with Dan and his team and have no hesitation in recommending them to others."

Northumbria Community is a diverse community of individuals from different backgrounds within the Christian faith. With a basis in Northumberland, but a global reach, their website is crucial to sharing and connecting.

We were approached to update the Community's website, due to our experience with custom WordPress development, and also because our history of working with member-based organisations.

We worked closely with Northumbria Community to learn how they operate, and what their requirements were.

We created a new website designed to meet the various needs of the community members, and handle the many custom content types required, including; readings, news, events, resources and more. The site is also responsive – meaning it works just as well on mobile devices as it does on desktops. This was particularly useful for the daily readings – where community members access the site from different devices all around the world, and commonly using mobile devices.

On the home page, upcoming events and latest news are featured. Info for upcoming saints' days is programmed to automatically update, and featured resources and 'Reflection' readings change automatically too.

For the community's many resources and products, we created an e-commerce section using WooCommerce, which we also integrated with Quickbooks for easier book-keeping. Large files downloads are integrated with Amazon S3 storage.

The design was created with the aim of allowing the content to be easily read, and the site easy to navigate.

Later, we split the integrated e-commerce store – built using WooCommerce – into a standalone shop with a distinct but complementary design.

This was a rewarding project, and it's been great to receive positive feedback and see the site's already substantial use increase even further.

Chairman, Northumbria Community

"When we started looking for a website developer we wanted someone who would take the time to understand who we are as a community, and then help us to build a site that would reflect this. We also needed some help understanding what we really needed the website to do, and how this might best be presented simply, clearly, and creatively. Above all we were looking for someone who worked relationally, could easily explain things in non-technical jargon, and be able to offer in-house solutions and support. Consilience has more than fulfilled all of these things, and we now have a website that we're really proud of. More importantly, the feedback from our website users has been extremely positive, and we have seen a significant increase in its use. We enjoy working with Dan and his team and have no hesitation in recommending them to others."
